What To Do With Return to A-Z Guide

Wood, untreated

Untreated, unpainted wood, logs, and branches are accepted in Ann Arbor curbside compost carts, and at the Drop-Off Station and Recovery Yard for recycling. Wood pieces must be less than 4ft long and less than 12" in diameter to recycle at Drop-Off Station and Recovery Yard.

To dispose of untreated wood in curbside compost cart, wood must be less than 6 inches diameter and fit in cart with lid closed.

Treated wood is not recyclable.

Recycle Right!

Untreated lumber should be clean and free of nails, staples, etc, in order to be composted as yard waste. Read Recycling Tips for Better Results: What to Do with Wood. Do not put any type of lumber/wood in your curbside recycling cart. Wood can damage equipment and create unsafe conditions for our workers.

Choose Zero Waste!

Use wood logs as garden edging and borders or bury them to help enrich your soil. Composting is one of the best ways to eliminate waste in your community!
