What To Do With Return to A-Z Guide
Prescription Bottles
Prescription bottles are small, cylindrical containers that come with a screw on cap and are generally transparent orange. Prescription bottles are not accepted in curbside recycling carts or at the Drop-Off Station or Recovery Yard.
Recycle Right!
Do not put prescription bottles in your curbside recycling cart. These bottles are too small to make it through the recycling sorting process and will drop through the cracks of the machines resulting in them being treated as trash and not recycled.
Accepted locally for donation at:
Blister packs from medication are not recyclable and should be thrown away.
After removing the label, empty prescription bottles are accepted at the following locations:
- Scrap Creative Reuse Ann Arbor drop-off
- Matthew 25: Ministries mail-in program
- Inquire about a collection program at your local pharmacy. The availability of recycling programs varies store to store.
While we do our best to stay updated on alternative reuse and recycling locations, we recommend that you call locations before taking your item(s) to confirm that they currently accept them.
Prescription drugs must be disposed of properly to ensure personal and community safety. To find out what to do with your prescription medication, head to Washtenaw County's medication disposal program
