What To Do With Return to A-Z Guide
BPI certified compostable bags, containers, silverware, etc.
As of January 1, 2024, BPI certified compostable plastics, including bags/can liners, containers, cutlery, cups, etc. are no longer accepted in Ann Arbor curbside compost carts or at the Compost Center. Learn more about this change here. Only manufactured compostable products made of fiber and paper are accepted.
Compost Right!
Ann Arbor accepts CMA-W fiber products for composting. Find a list of currently accepted items here. BPI-certified paper/fiber items are still accepted, but plastic BPI-certified items are not. Check the above links for specific items. If the item says that it is compostable and it is Plastic, leave it out. If the item is paper or wood-based and says that it is compostable, then put it in.
Choose Zero Waste!
Eliminate the need to compost these items by going bagless in your kitchen compost bin or line with newspaper and use reusable containers and cutlery.
