What To Do With Return to A-Z Guide

Shredded Paper

Shredded paper is accepted for recycling at the Drop-Off Station. Please place the shredded paper into a paper bag before dropping it off. Shredded paper is recycled separately from the single stream mix at the Drop-Off Station. Additionally, shredded paper can be composted in your home compost pile.

Recycle Right!

Do not put shredded paper in your curbside recycling cart. Shredded paper is too small to make it through the recycling sorting process and will drop through the cracks of the machines. As a result, it will be treated as trash and not recycled, often ending up as contamination in the glass stream. Only shred documents with sensitive information as shredding breaks down and shortens the paper fibers, decreasing its ability to be recycled over and over. Recycling whole pieces of paper keeps the fibers long and strong and can be recycled multiple times.

Choose Zero Waste!

Instead of shredding, blackout information with a sharpie and use it as scrap paper. Only shred paper that needs to be shredded!
