Empty propane tanks and canisters are accepted for recycling at the Drop-Off Station and Recovery Yard. Propane and propane tanks are accepted at Washtenaw County's Home Toxics disposal site for proper disposal.
Recycle Right!
Propane tanks must be completely empty before recycling at the Drop-Off Station and Recovery Yard. Do NOT put propane tanks in your curbside recycling cart as they are extremely dangerous. The hazardous waste/chemicals inside could leak out which creates dangerous conditions for our workers and could contaminate an entire load of recyclables, turning them into trash and not recycled.
Choose Zero Waste!
Always follow the storage instructions to safely store and maintain propane tanks. This will help you avoid wasting any propane and ensure that you use up all of the fuel before disposing of an empty tank. Additionally, consider using a propane exchange or refill center to refill your tanks as long as they are not expired.
