What To Do With Return to A-Z Guide

Paint, latex

Latex paint is not recyclable and is not accepted in curbside recycling carts or at the Drop-Off Station or Recovery Yard. Latex paint that is still liquid is accepted at Washtenaw County's Home Toxics disposal site for proper disposal. If paint cans are empty or the paint is totally dried out, put cans in the trash with the lid off. To dry latex paint at home so you can dispose in the trash, add materials like clay-based cat litter to the paint to speed up the drying process.

Recycle Right!

Combine latex paints into as few cans as possible before disposing at the Washtenaw County Home Toxics site. Do NOT put paint or paint cans in your curbside recycling cart. The hazardous materials create dangerous conditions for our workers and could contaminate an entire load of recyclables, turning them into trash and not recycled.

Choose Zero Waste!

Always follow the storage instructions to safely and properly store paint, allowing for multiple uses without it drying out. Thoroughly clean paint brushes, rollers, and pans to ensure they can be reused.
