What To Do With Return to A-Z Guide
Oil, standard or extended life
Standard or extended-life motor oil is accepted for recycling at the Drop-Off Station or can be taken to Washtenaw County's Home Toxics disposal site for proper disposal.
Recycle Right!
Oil must be in a strong, sealed container (such as the original container). No mixed fluids, animal-based oil or fats, oil-based paints, or stains are accepted at the Drop-Off Station. Do NOT put oil, oil filters, or empty motor oil bottles in your curbside recycling cart or trash as it is extremely dangerous and flammable. The hazardous chemicals create dangerous conditions for our workers and could contaminate an entire load of recyclables, turning them into trash and not recycled.
Choose Zero Waste!
Used motor oil is highly recyclable; it can be re-refined into new oil, processed into fuel oils, and used as raw materials for the petroleum industry.
