Ecology Center

Recycle Ann Arbor is a wholly-owned non-profit subsidiary of The Ecology Center. The Ecology Center and Recycle Ann Arbor first merged their independent recycling operations in 1981.

The Ecology Center was founded by community activists after the country's first Earth Day in 1970. A leader in the environmental movement of Southeast Michigan, the Ecology Center's has a four-faceted strategy.

  • Educating consumers to help keep their families healthy and safe.
  • Pushing corporations to use clean energy, make safe products, and provide healthy food.
  • Working with policymakers to establish laws that protect communities and the environment.
  • Creating innovative services that promote healthy people and a healthy planet.

The Ecology Center focuses its efforts in a few specific areas, where they've developed deep expertise, analyzed opportunities, and identified strategies for maximum impact. These overarching areas are Environmental Health, Sustainable Food, Energy & Climate Change, and Zero Waste. To put it very briefly, they work to make your products safer, your food more local, the energy you use cleaner, and to make less waste in the process.
