What To Do With Return to A-Z Guide

Aerosol cans, empty

Empty household aerosol cans are accepted for recycling in curbside recycling carts and at the Drop-Off Station and Recovery Yard. Household aerosol cans include non-hazardous waste such as shaving cream, whipped cream, cooking spray, hairspray, bug spray, etc.

Recycle Right!

Aerosol cans must be completely empty to be recycled. The product contained within can leak or spray out during the collection and sorting process, which creates dangerous conditions for our workers and could contaminate an entire load of recyclables.

Higher-pressure containers, like propane tanks, whippets, other N2O steel cartridges, and CO2 canisters for at-home soda makers are not accepted in curbside recycling carts. If empty, they can be recycled at the Drop-Off Station.

Choose Zero Waste!

Avoid buying aerosol cans when possible, for example, use sunscreen or bug spray lotion that comes in a bottle without a propellant. There are many cleaners and air fresheners that can be made at home with just a few ingredients!
